The Federation of Environmental Trade Associations (FETA) has launched the Chilled Beam and Ceiling Association as a dedicated specialist group for radiant cooling technologies. The move reflects increasing industry traction for systems that offer an alternative to conventional air conditioning in response to tightening building energy performance standards.

Chilled ceiling and beam systems operate by circulating cooled water through pipes embedded in ceiling panels or beams, leveraging radiant heat exchange rather than convective cooling. This approach typically consumes less energy than traditional fan-coil or ducted systems, particularly in retrofit applications where ductwork installation poses logistical or cost constraints.

The formation of a dedicated trade association signals confidence that radiant cooling will capture growing market share as regulatory pressure on building decarbonisation intensifies across the UK and EU. Specifiers and building services engineers increasingly factor lifecycle operating costs and embodied carbon into system selection, favouring technologies that reduce mechanical cooling loads.

For contractors and system suppliers, the association establishes a unified technical voice on standards, training, and installer accreditation—factors critical to accelerating mainstream adoption beyond niche applications.
